photo session questions and answers

1. What’s your shooting style? (I’m camera shy — help!)

Don’t worry, you are not the first person to say that! My approach to photo sessions is relaxed and unrushed. I like to spend time getting to know you and your partner / family as we walk to our photo location before we begin shooting. To respect each other's time, I keep all sessions within the booked timeframe, as I understand we both might have places to be after our session. During the photo session, I like to give minimal direction (to capture natural movement), specific direction of body placement, and prompts to encourage you to interact with your partner / family.

2. Can we meet prior to our session / prior to booking?

I typically don’t schedule pre-session calls, but if you would prefer to schedule a quick video or phone call prior to booking a session, we can absolutely can arrange for that! Building a relationship with you is so important to me — I find getting to know someone via email is so different compared to speaking to someone over a call.

3. Who chooses our photo session location?

We’ll work together to choose a photo location! You can send from a list of my favourite locations, or, if you have a location special to you, I recommend shooting there!

4. Can we reschedule? What if it rains?

After a session date has been set, the rescheduling fee is $50. If it rains, you always have the option to postpone without a rescheduling fee! If it’s lightly raining I can provide cute clear umbrellas for your session. Please keep in mind that my availability is limited we may not be able to reschedule a session right away.

5. How soon do you deliver the photos? Can we be sent previews?

Our turnaround time for sessions is three weeks from your session date. Because of the short turnaround time, we do not send previews from photo sessions so that we can deliver everyone’s photos as quick as possible! Part of your session’s photos can be sent as a preview in as early as 3 business days for an additional fee.

10. What type of payments do you accept?

We currently also accept etransfer, cash, and cheque.

7. Do you offer blemish removal?

Minimal blemish correction is applied to those pesky pimples that showed up uninvited on your session date! I do not remove natural permanent marks (moles, scars, freckles, etc.) as I want to accurately and honestly portray the beautiful person who you are! In instances where a lot of blemish correction is required (i.e. newborn sessions), enhanced editing can be requested for an additional fee on a cost per image basis.

11. How much is the booking deposit?

The booking deposit is 50% of your booking total. The deposit is non-refundable and will be applied to your total booking. As soon as we receive the deposit, your booking date is secured on our end and goes into our calendars!

6. What kind of editing do our images go through?

All images go through an editing adjustment to achieve the correct white balance, lighting exposure, cropping the image and straightening the image (so it doesn’t look wonky!), and colour adjustments to achieve the image style that you see in our work. 

8. Are images delivered in colour, or black and white?

Session galleries are delivered in colour. 15% of your gallery can be delivered in black and white for an additional fee. If you choose to add black and white images to your booking, the images delivered in black and white will also be delivered in colour.

9. Can we re-edit our photos / add a filter?

We request (and add in our agreements!) that you cannot re-edit or add filters onto the photos we deliver to you. Filters are amazing and work like a charm, but we want you to hire us because you like our style of work! (It’s like us taking a famous artist’s painting, adding to it, and then still crediting the original artist for the work — it wouldn’t be what the artist initially intended!)
